Eleanor’s romantic tour of Italy shatters when her long-time boyfriend dumps her in Pompeii. Hoping an evening with a handsome Roman might save her trip, she contacts Madame Eve at 1Night Stand, then goes out to explore, buying a small golden signet in a mysterious antiquities shop near the Forum.
Darius, a hard-working Senator in Ancient Rome, is puzzled by the Sibyl’s words: You will not find love in your lifetime. Following her directions, he spots Eleanor, a barbarian wearing his stolen senator’s ring.
A night spent together may be just what they both need to break down the columns of time that stand between them.
Eleanor adjusted her pack on her shoulders and stood at the curb, waiting to cross the Via dei Fori Imperiali. The crumbled ruins of the Roman Forum spread out on the opposite side of the road like shell fragments scattered along the shore after a violent storm. She clutched her newly acquired treasure in her hand and joined the horde of tourists sweeping across the road in a giant swarming wave as cars tried to skim past without hitting anyone. People, pointing and posing alongside the entrance to the ruins, clamored and chatted. A horn blew behind her and she turned to see a blue bus swerving on the narrow street. Tourists scattered like a flock of birds taking flight.
For a moment, she wished she had stayed longer in the little shop. At least it was quiet. And much cooler. She closed her eyes and squeezed the ring, taking comfort in its cool smoothness. Darius. She’d have to research the Senator when she got back to the hotel. For now, she had to figure out if she could go through with her hasty 1 Night Stand commitment. The promise was a night to remember forever, but was it the right thing to do? She hadn’t expected a match to happen so quickly.
Breathing deeply, she turned to face the past and stepped onto the stone walkway that meandered through the ruins. The Forum sprawled out before her. Rome, its glory crumbled around her like old dreams, beckoned her closer. Oblivious to the hordes of tourists lined to enter, the ruins whispered of lost beauty in a fractured column, a lone stair, a shattered statue. Eleanor sighed.
Her relationship with Peter hadn’t even lasted long enough to make its mark on the world. Not a pebble remained of their shared glory. Had it only been a mirage? Or a mistake? To invest so much in something so new – it felt out of place here in the Eternal city.
Yet the powerful Rome had fallen, too, and left its secrets scattered along the Via Sacra. If such a powerful nation couldn’t stand the test of time, how could she expect love to last past a fleeting moment? What right had she to demand more?

Night Owl Reviews “4 STARS”
SENATOR, MINE is a sensual and thoroughly satisfying time travel romance. Darius is a sexy, compelling character with needs that conflict with his many responsibilities, and Eleanor’s desire for love fills him like a missing puzzle piece. The fact that they are from two different centuries only adds a delicious tension to their romance. The attraction between Eleanor and Darius is hot and powerful. For a short novel, SENATOR, MINE is packed with steamy moments between the two characters that only left me wanting more. In fact, my only critique of the novel is that I found myself wishing for additional scenes with Darius and Eleanor. Their story offers up many possibilities. SENATOR, MINE is a fantastic package as it is, but Darius and Eleanor are such appealing characters that you it might leave you wanting more of them too.
