Triangle Writers is a serious group. We work really hard and slave away week after week and month after month–trying to improve our writing. 🙂 Ok, well we do work really hard, but we most always have fun while doing it.Â
This week, we had a big outing. Anyone who knows me (or knows someone who knows me) — KNOWS how much I love Green Day. I mean – LOVE Green Day. The band is my inspiration. When American Idiot was made into a musical and went to Broadway–I went, too. Several times.Â
Then, when I found out the touring version of the Broadway show would stop here in little boring Raleigh, I really wanted to share it with my fellow creative friends–and they were all game. Most were not really familiar with the music, but they are all so awesome and open that they agreed to go to the show just because I loved it so much. (love you guys!)
From the official site (http://americanidiotthemusical.com/about.php):
Direct from Broadway, the smash-hit musical AMERICAN IDIOT tells the story of three lifelong friends, forced to choose between their dreams and the safety of suburbia. Their quest for true meaning in a post 9/11 world leads them on the most exhilarating theatrical journey of the season.
Based on Green Day’s GRAMMY® Award-winning multi-platinum album, AMERICAN IDIOT boldly takes the American musical where it’s never gone before. The result is an experience Charles Isherwood¬¬ of The New York Times declares “thrilling, emotionally charged, and as moving as any Broadway musical I’ve seen this year!”
We invited spouses and significant others and made it a night complete with a nice dinner (yummy blue cheese mac and cheese!) and spirits (orange blossom!). I am not sure everyone enjoyed the show — but I do think we all enjoyed being together and having a night where we weren’t critting or chatting about plot!
If you are in a writing group and you don’t do the occasional social thing, I certainly encourage you to get out and do it sometimes–it’s a terrific stress reliever. 🙂  And if you get a chance to see the touring show of American Idiot–it comes with my highest recommendation!
Here’s a pic of four of us at the end of the night. Two of the guys had already headed home. 🙂 Â

I’m sorry we missed the photo. Wife was tired, and I thought it was going to be impossible to wrangle everyone at the end of the show. I figured we’d all scatter and be gone in seconds
We had a great time. The show was awesome, and the food was fantastic (plug for Porters on Hillsboro St.). See you next week.
