Today, I’d like to welcome Lisa Morrow! Her book To Kill a Wizard is out now! Thanks so much, Lisa, for stopping by. Your cover is gorgeous!
Readers so rarely get insight into all the work that goes into writing a novel. Here, I’m going to share a little about my experience, which started a long time before even the idea of To Kill a Wizard came to me.
I was almost done writing my first book the year I started teaching junior high. I remember how excited my students were to read my novel. In my head, I’d count the months it might take until my book was finally ready; and then, how long it would actually take to be printed and in my students’ hands.
I was wrong. Oh. So. Wrong.
Finishing a book was just the beginning. Revising and editing, another painfully long step of the process. And then many, many more steps after that.
Four years later, I’d “finished” my first book, but it had yet to see the light of day. After joining a critique group, I ended up spending another year editing my book and improving my skill, before setting my original idea down and finally beginning my Protectors of Tarak series.
Most jobs, it’d be ridiculous to spend six years creating one product. But with writing, it’s better to take your time to create something amazing, then to put out a bad story.
So, I hope you’ll check out To Kill a Wizard, the product of my years of hard work.
When eighteen-year-old Rose is chosen to join a mysterious order of women known as The Protectors, she hopes to escape a forced marriage and a miserable life. Instead, she unveils the dark secrecy surrounding The Protectors, and uncovers the horrific truth behind their power source. With her loyalty in tatters and her best friend’s life held hostage, she must learn to unlock the powerful magic slumbering deep inside her.
But time is running out.
The Undead Wizards, a dangerous enemy, have re-emerged from the Underworld, plunging The Protectors and the kingdom into a brutal war. Unfortunately, The Fates’ decree, that Rose is the answer to the war, may cost her more than she ever imagined. To win, she must decide whether to join them and betray the man she loves, or risk the annihilation of all she holds dear.

Lisa Morrow is a life-long reader who treasures fantasy in all forms. Being a middle child in a large family gave her a unique perspective on the world, but few experiences compare to her time spent studying abroad in Cambridge, England and wandering throughout Europe.
After her travels, Lisa settled down in Arizona to teach junior high English, and later, to spend time with her young children, husband, and cats. At the same time, she’s written several exciting stories in her young adult fantasy series The Protectors of Tarak, including To Kill a Wizard, Goddess of the Sea, and Realm of Goddesses. To some people, her life may seem quiet. But to her, every day is spent in a world colored by the imagination of children, and fantastical worlds created by her very own mind.
